Guidelines for Beginners Dance Students and Parents

1) Enrollment for Fall/Spring classes is Saturday July 15th and continues through the school year. Appointments to enroll or for class placement may be made by calling the school at 405-364-1818.

2) Tuition is based on a 9-month or 10 -month schedule depending on Class Level and may be paid in monthly installments. There is an annual non-refundable enrollment fee of $50 per student. All tuition and recital fees are non-refundable. Tuition is due on the 1st day of each month, paid in advance & past due the 10th of the month, after which a late fee of $20 is due.

3) Parking: Parents may park in the curved school drive and along the curb on Rebecca Lane. & in the school driveway in front of the garage. The apartment complex across from the school has requested no parking in their parking lot or in front of their mailboxes. *****Note: the curved drive is for one lane parking only - it is not wide enough to be used as a passing lane!

4) The observation window blinds will be opened only on designated Observation Days. Family and friends are encouraged to attend and observe their dancer’s progress! Dates for Observation Days are posted on the school Calendar.

5) Make up Classes: Students are allowed to take make up for classes missed in the event of illness and family emergencies within a one month period of the missed class. No make-up classes are allowed after April 1 as classes are preparing for the Recital.

6) All students must be properly dressed for every class. For girls, a solid-color leotard, ballet pink tights (footed) and pink ballet shoes must be worn for every class. Hair must be tidy and in a bun. Boys may wear bike shorts or black tights, a white T-shirt and black or white ballet shoes. Ballet shoes must have elastic sewn on & strings trimmed off, and the dancer’s name written inside.

7) Students must be on time to class. It is a good rule to arrive at least 10 minutes before class. If a student is late for any reason, and misses part of the warm-up at the barre, he/she may be asked to sit and watch the class. This is not punishment, but a safety precaution to avoid possible injury.

8) Students are to wait inside the studio for their ride after class. As a safety measure, students younger than 8 are not allowed to leave the building without being accompanied by an adult. Parents are to pick up students immediately after class. If an emergency occurs in which you must be late picking up your child, please call to notify the school.

9) Ballet School notices and announcements will be sent via e-mail to parents and students from the email marjorienok@aol.com Please make sure that your primary and 2nd email addresses are always made known to the school so that you can be kept up to date on school news & announcements. Birthday & holiday cards are sent via www.jacquielawson.com. Please make sure to check for your child's birthday e-card!

10) Bad Weather: Usually whenever the Norman Public Schools are let out due to bad weather, dance classes will not be held since NPS knows the road conditions throughout the area. There are exceptions & the school will notify all students via e-mail if this is the case. If the weather is treacherous due to ice, snow, tornado, etc. after public school hours, please do what you deem best for your safety & stay at home in the event of ongoing and potentially hazardous conditions. Call ahead to the school if you are unsure.

11) Students are to act with respect and courtesy toward their teacher and other students. Students are expected to act respectfully toward all school property, inside and out of the ballet studio. Students are to talk quietly while waiting for their class to begin. Absolutely no running or dancing in the waiting area is allowed.

12) Only students will be allowed into the building except for Observation Days. We will maintain temperature checks and hand sanitizing. Beginning in August the school will be offering a Mask Optional policy for all classes. Those who prefer not to wear masks during class will be allowed that option. Those who feel safer wearing a mask during class are of course welcome to do that. Please refer to the MKSB COVID-19 Policies page for more information.

13) Holidays: Please check the school Calendar for specific dates

14) No food or drink is allowed in the ballet studio except for bottled water.

Please do not hesitate to call Ms. Marjorie about any matters concerning your child and his/her ballet class!  All children go through stages of not wanting to go to class or wanting to quit, etc. Sometimes a different class might be a better fit. Sometimes a different perspective offered to the child will help.  Sometimes encouragement from a teacher will give them confidence.  This is common with a lot of children. Sometimes it is difficult for children to develop the discipline of coming to class & mastering this wonderful craft/art form!  Ballet is hard work! But it's fun too!  Call me & I will be happy to help you guide your dancer through this and other potential issues!   405-364-1818

The Marjorie Kovich School of Ballet COVID-19 Policies for Fall 2023

The health and wellness of our students and teachers remains of primary concern. Please read the following updates to our COVID protocols carefully. We appreciate your continued cooperation as we continue to protect our Ballet School community.

1. MKSB will offer a Mask Optional policy for all classes beginning this school year. Those dancers who wish to not wear masks during class will be allowed that option, and those who feel more at ease wearing a mask during class are welcome to do that.

2. We will continue to monitor temperatures and sanitize hands as students enter the studio, maintain maximum ventilation in the studio, and continue cleaning protocols.

3. Parents and siblings will be allowed into the building only on Observation Days, except for parents of the youngest students, who may need to be escorted into the studio during the early days of the season.

Exposure and Infection Protocols

The MKSB’s Exposure and Infection Protocols follow ODH and CDC Guidelines.

- These protocols are subject to change as circumstances dictate and we will continue to follow ODH and CDC guidelines.
